

I wanted to go underneath it and make a more modest character study movie. You have to remember, movies are not about the weekend that they're released, and in the grand scheme of things, that's probably the most unimportant time of a film's life, but the thing is, I wasn't trying to top Pulp Fiction with Jackie Brown. I'm talking about the Friday it was released. Now, in the case of something like Jackie Brown. Quentin Tarantino and Julie Dreyfus on the set of Kill Bill If you can't handle pressure in directing, then you can't handle it. 'How do you deal with the pressure?' Well, that's the name of the game. It could be bad art or good art, but that's where I'm coming from anyway, and my favorite aspect about having that situation is anticipation of the new work. I get to be an artist and I get to be respected as an artist and my stuff is viewed that way. That's if you don't consider architecture. Tarantino jumps at the statement: "Well, I mean, personally, I wouldn't have it any other way, all right? I mean, the number one thing that I probably enjoy the most with the lucky situation that I have, where I get to live the life of an artist, and actually in one of the most expensive, or the most expensive art form in the world, I guess. Expectations for Kill Bill are obviously very high. He is as excited about the film as he hopes his following will be.

Also as usual, Tarantino is full of energy to talk about the project. in his usual rock star fashion, wearing a custom-made Kill Bill jacket with red stripes and dragons across the arms. Tarantino walks into the room at the Four Seasons in L.A. Kill Bill was born, bringing us to present day. Tarantino picked up the pages and realized what a great film it could be. That's where it stayed until Uma spoke to Quentin again a few years back and reminded him of the project. Tarantino wrote a few pages and basically tossed it aside in a drawer somewhere. The idea first arose in a barroom conversation with Uma Thurman during the Pulp Fiction shoot.

Actually, maybe the two most elaborate kung fu films of all time, as Kill Bill was recently split into Volume 1, which comes out this Friday, and Volume 2, currently slated for a February 2004 release. Finally, Tarantino is back, in not-so-surprising grand fashion with perhaps the most elaborate kung fu film of all time.
